COURSES

Courses are approximately 65 miles long and will utilize government marks in Block Island Sound, Montauk, and Gardiners Bay areas. The starting area will be in the vicinity of Horseshoe Reef just west of Fishers Island Sound. The course to be sailed will be set by the race committee immediately prior to the start. Three sample courses are shown.

Free event T-Shirts for all Skippers and Crew. Shirts will be handed out by the race committee prior to the start of the race.

MUDNITE PHOTO CONTEST

Over the years, some pretty spectacular photos have been taken during the Mudnite Madness Race. This year you can win a trophy for your off-watch creativity! The rules are simple:

  • The photos must be taken during Mudnite Madness
  • Any race participant (crew or skipper) can submit up to 3 photos.

REMEMBER to shoot at highest resolution possible!!

Include your name and boat sailed on.
Best photo to be selected by the Mudhead board of directors. Winner will receive an award during the September awards ceremony.
The winning photo will be featured on the mudhead website and facebook page!

DETAILS

Rules: The Race will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing. Double-handed entries may use self-steering devices during sail changes only. This changes Rule 52.
Date:
July 31, 2020
Eligibility: Current PHRF of Eastern Connecticut certificate holders. All boats will have: a self-bailing cockpit, fixed berths and the ability to be self-supporting for a weekend cruise.
Entry Fee: $35.00 per boat. Registration is through the YachtScoring link at www.mudhead.org. or mail entry and payment to: MRMSA, PO Box 117, West Mystic, CT 06388.
Entry Deadline: 2400 Thursday, July 30, 2020. First Warning: 1755 July 31, 2020.
Start: The starting line will be in the vicinity of Horseshoe Reef between the Race Committee Signal Boat and an inflatable mark.
Finish: Within 100 yards of Seaflower Reef. Finishers will record their own GPS time.
Courses: Course length will be 45 – 70 nm and will be sailed on the waters of Fisher’s Island, Long Island, Block Island Sound and Gardiner’s Bay, as conditions permit.
Time Limit: 1800 EDT, Saturday, August 1st, 2020.
Sailing Instructions: Available at www.mudhead.org after June 1st, 2020.
Classes: Determined by the Race Committee. Spinnaker, Non-Spinnaker, and Double-handed classes will be offered.
Scoring: Time-on-Time calculation.
Bonus Points: This is an ECSA Offshore Circuit double point race.
Results: Prizes will be awarded during the Mudhead Awards Banquet Wednesday, Sept 16th, 2020. at Mason’s Island Yacht Club.
