to let him know you are coming and you're set for the adventure of the summer.
The Course is from Horseshoe Reef, south to Cerberus Shoal, then a circumnavigation of Block Island, in either direction, back to Cerberus, then back into the Race with the Finish off of Ram Island Bell 20. About 65 miles with the big choice...clockwise or counter clockwise around Block? On Friday night, the Ebb Tide will be at it's max about 1930, perfect to get you well into Block Island Sound. Then it's roll the dice, watch the wind and find the tactical advantage or plain old boat speed to get around the track.

Some musing on the Mudnight Madness Overnight.
by Greg Gilmartin
The cry was almost apologetic on the radio from Doug McDonald. "Race Committee, this is Euphoria. We're going to be late." The 10 boats circling before the start off Horseshoe Reef could see the familiar blue hulled Pearson 30 off in the distance, slowly sailing in the light breeze, still a mile or so away. There was no way they were going to make it in time and sure enough, the gun sounded and the starting sequence began and five minutes later, the ten were off on starboard in the Southwesterly breeze, The 3rd Annual Mudnight Madness Overnight was underway. Destination - circumnavigation of Block Island.
This is the Third Annual Mudnight Madness Overnight around Block Island. The date keeps moving around because of the July 4th holiday and the shifting sands of time on the calendar, but whenever you go offshore at night, it's bound to create the kind of challenge that has sent men and women to the sea for centuries. So, now that we have the event in historical context, you will find all you need right here. The entry form and waiver can be downloaded as well as the NOR and the Sailing Instructions.
