Mudnight Madness by the rockets red glare! This is the 4th Annual Mudnight Madness Overnight around Block Island. The date keeps moving around because of the July 4th holiday and the shifting sands of time on the calendar, but whenever you go offshore at night, it's bound to create the kind of challenge that has sent men and women to the sea for centuries. So, now that we have the event in historical context, you will find all you need right here the NOR is posted and also available in your ECSA yearbook. Once again, the overnight is a double points race. We are offering our gumball trophies once again for the top finishers and the Blow Hard Trophy is up for grabs to the skipper with the fastest corrected time. The Cook's Pot is also up for grabs for the team with the slowest time. Time limit is 1800 on Saturday, July 3rd. The courses this year will remain the same. Starting from Horseshoe Reef area, keep Race Point and Cerberus Shoal to port, then circumnavigate Block Island in either direction, navigator's choice based on wind and current and timing, then back to Cerberus Shoal and Race Point, keeping then to Starboard and finish within 100 yards of Ram Island bell when it bears exactly 0 degrees. Because of the weekend celebration of Independence Day, each year we've seen the rockets red glare from the various fireworks shows put on by the coastline towns of Rhode Island and Long Island. |
