What is a Mudhead?
Before there were Mudheads, there was a small group of friends bound together by their passion for sailboat racing and their love of a good time. They raced hard and partyed hard in a time when many could not afford to join a yacht club. Or had no interest. A time when these free spirited sailors might not expect to be asked to join.
So, the Mudheads formed their own club in 1976 to help promote their cause. Racing and camaraderie. From those heady days, the Mudheads have grown into arguably the most active racing fleet in the Northeast with over 60 boats regularly participating in the Wednesday Night Racing Series. The Mudhead burgee is frequently visible in weekend regattas from Newport to Block Island to City Island.
And even Around the World. Anyone can join. All it takes is a member sponsor and a few dollars for annual dues. Of course, you will need a desire to join a club whose Mission is to promote camaraderie and fun among members by encouraging competitive sailing, managing quality races, fostering member participation in racing at all levels, and hosting memorable social events.
Mudheads also participate by volunteering to help carry off the scheduled club events during the year and by donating to our charitable causes which help support and promote racing and sailors in the area. Learn more about Volunteering and Donations. Ready to Join?
